A small flat lawn and a steep, overgrown section are different jobs. Help providers estimate the work by sharing the details below. You do not need exact measurements, but a rough size and clear photos are useful.
1. Show the space
Take a wide photo of each area and close-ups of overgrown patches. Estimate lawn size or describe the front and back sections separately. Mention slopes, uneven ground and obstacles. Avoid including people, car number plates or private documents in your photos.
2. Explain what you want done
Separate mowing and edging from weeding, hedge trimming or a wider garden tidy-up. Identify plants and beds that should be left alone. If you are unsure what work is needed, ask whether a site visit is required before a firm quote.
3. Describe equipment access
Mention gate width, steps, steep paths and whether the garden is reachable only through the house. Explain parking and access arrangements. Let the provider know about pets so you can agree how to keep them secure during the visit.
4. Agree what happens to the waste
Specify whether grass clippings should be mulched, placed in an available bin or removed. For a large tidy-up, ask for green-waste disposal to be itemised. Confirm whether the provider removes branches and other debris or only garden cuttings.
5. Compare scope and plan for weather
Check whether each quote covers the same area and tasks. Confirm fixed versus hourly pricing, any disposal charges and GST where applicable. For repeat mowing, agree the interval and whether it changes seasonally. Ask what happens if rain makes the lawn unsuitable to mow.
